Abu Dhabi, Oct 11 (IANS/WAM) Around 400 medical professionals will participate in a symposium here on obesity Oct 16-17 to share new treatment methods and other aspects to fight the disease.

The symposium will focus on the latest medical updates and best practices in the field of obesity and minimal invasive surgery.

The annual conference, organised by Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) and the US-based Cleveland Clinic, will also discuss health implications of morbid obesity such as heart disease, liver disease and chronic kidney disease.

Apart from bariatric surgeons and physicians, the event will also be attended by pediatricians, gastroenterologists, psychologists and dieticians.

Abdelrahman Nimeri, Director of the Bariatric and Metabolic Institute at SKMC, said: “This is a great opportunity to discuss new cutting-edge trends and techniques used in the field of minimally invasive surgeries with other healthcare providers interested in bariatric surgeries.”

Atul Mehta, Chief Medical Officer at SKMC, said: “Obesity is a national health problem and we are proud to organise such a comprehensive symposium to share our experience in bariatric surgery using minimally invasive fashion with the entire medical community.”
