SANDYFORD, (Gaeatime.com)- Dentists Martin Reid along with James Turner have been granted injunctions from the High Court that prevents HSE to make any changes to the DTSS. Reportedly the dentists told in the court that such an injunction is absolutely necessary not only for the doctors but also for the medical card holders who shall be able to avail free medical treatments that includes a free oral examination once in every year.
Both the dentists were of the opinion that HSE (Health Service Executive) has breached the terms of the contract for the Dental Treatment Service Scheme. The Dental Treatment Service Scheme was announced in the year of 1994 in accordance to the will of the dentists and the Health Board. Justice Mary Laffoy said that the injunctions granted by the High Court are prohibitive but not mandatory.
Irish Dental Association CEO (Chief Executive Officer) Fintan Hourihan welcomed the decision of the High Court and said that such a decision is benevolent as it offers a chance to all medical card holders to avail their free dental checkup and oral examinations that are stated in Dental Treatment Service Scheme. Dentists Martin Turner and Martin Reid said that the injunctions and shall offer rigidity to the framework of of the Dental Treatment Service Scheme. They further added that they as dentists they feel that it was necessary to raise the issue. They are happy that the court has given its decision in their favor. The dentists feel that the changes proposed by HSE would have “disastrous consequences” that would lead to a “dramatic effect on public health”.
