KOLKATA, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com) — A recent survey in Northern Ireland has revealed the fact that almost 90% of women are unaware of the risks of heart diseases. Consequently they tend lose their lives from a heart disease that is preventable.
The study was conducted by the British Heart Foundation which showed that women just ignore the symptoms and don’t discus their heart related problems with the doctors. This habit is commonly associated with the myth that heart disease is a middle-aged male health problem which simply doesn’t affect women in the same way.
According to the charity more than 1,000 women die from heart disease every year and it kills three times more than breast cancer. Despite this only 8% of women in Northern Ireland aged over 40 said their doctor had discussed it with them. The British Heart Foundation is asking women to a heart-health check-up before the situation worsen.
