CHANDIGARH - Punjab’s Jalandhar district has reported the highest number of dengue cases in the state, health department officials said here Tuesday.

Punjab’s Director Health services and Family Welfare Ashok Nayyar said that out of the 246 dengue cases reported across Punjab so far, 145 cases were from Jalandhar district.

Concerned over the high number of dengue patients from Jalandhar, 150 km from here, a team of the state surveillance unit of the Punjab health department has reviewed arrangements for medical treatment of the patients.

The team observed that in view of the suspected cases being reported in Civil Hospital, Jalandhar, the deployment of extra manpower and equipment to detect and treat dengue was being done.

Nayyar said two additional wards have been made available in the Employees’ State Insurance hospital for treatment of dengue patients.
