SAN FRANCISCO (GaeaTimes.com)- The pet owners try to keep their furry companions in comfort and want to ensure that they get the best stuff. That is why they rush to the pet stores in the vicinity and buy various types of pet products. However, very few of them are aware of the fact that the products are not always good for their canine companions. On the contrary, they can harm the animals and even lead to the formation of serious skin diseases if the usage is continued. Apart from checking the expiry date of the pet food, the owners also need to be careful when they buy accessories like flea collars. This is a common pet accessory that the owners often have to buy. A recent study had pointed out the fact that some shops sell collars containing really hazardous substances. This is alarming news.

There are some pet stores which keep and sell flea collars containing materials like propoxur and tetrachlorvinphos. The collars containing these materials not only harm the dog but can also be harmful for the pet owners. A global movement has begun that asks the pet owners to raise voice against leading pet stores such as PetSmart and Petco from keeping such products. The Natural Resource Defense Council has a website that has details on the issue and it can be useful for every pet owner.

While laws are there regarding what products should be kept and sold by the pet stores some stores flout them. The ignorance of the majority of buyers help them. The study and its finding however has made many pet owners quite aware about the consequences of using the items.
