Pa. abortion doctor’s license suspended after raid

PHILADELPHIA — Pennsylvania regulators say federal raids at a Philadelphia clinic where abortions are performed found “deplorable and unsanitary” conditions, including blood on the floor and parts of aborted fetuses in jars.

The Pennsylvania Department of State’s Board of Medicine said Tuesday that the findings prompted the department to close the Family Medical Society, an abortion and pain-management clinic, and to suspend the license of Kermit Gosnell, the doctor in charge.

The temporary license suspension follows at least two raids by agents from the Drug Enforcement Agency and the FBI. No criminal charges have been filed. DEA and FBI officials declined to comment.

Gosnell’s phone number is unlisted. It’s not known if he has an attorney. Calls to the clinic rang unanswered.
