NEW DELHI - The national capital recorded its fourth swine flu death Monday when a 69-year-old man died due to the influenza A (H1N1) infection, health authorities said.
He was admitted to the hospital on Aug 28. He had bronchial asthma for the last 18 years and suffered from renal failure. Though he was not in a critical stage, his condition was bad from the beginning, N.K. Chaturvedi, medical superintendent of the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, told IANS.
The victim, Durga Prasad Sharma, had first gone to a private hospital here before being shifted to the RML hospital.
His x-ray report had confirmed pneumonia. He died this afternoon. He has tested positive for the virus, Chaturvedi said.
“He was on ventilator and was undergoing dialysis. His test reports on Aug 1 confirmed him positive for the virus,” Chaturvedi said.
With this, the total number of swine flu deaths in the capital has gone up to four. The other three deaths had also occurred at the RML hospital.
With this death, the toll in India has gone up to 135.
