LONDON - A new-born has been named after a curry house in Britain as the woman gave birth soon after eating a spicy dish there.

Leo Joseph Nakodar Brown, who is called Nakodar by his parents Esther and Paul, was born 11 hours after Esther gorged on a vegetable ‘bhuna’ at the Nakodar Grill.

The employees at the restaurant in Dennistoun, Glasgow, were touched by the gesture and announced that Nakodar can have free curry for life, The Sun reported Friday.

“I didn’t expect it to work that quickly. We now call him Nakodar. It’s his nickname and middle name. We’re so delighted the curry did the trick,” Paul was quoted as saying.

Esther said: “I was quite fed up with being pregnant. I had read about the old wives’ tale that a spicy curry can help speed up delivery. So when Paul picked me up, I said: ‘Let’s try the curry’.”

“I’d never been to Nakodar before but Paul had, so we went there for a late lunch. Later I started to feel something happening. This was my first pregnancy so I didn’t know for sure but I was in labour.”

“I was so pleased - but surprised as you’re never sure if this sort of thing works.”

The couple went to the restaurant last week for the first time since Nakodar’s June 30 birth.

Restaurant boss Johnnie Ginda said that the quick birth could be due to fenugreek and coriander spices in the ‘bhuna’ dish Esther ate.

He said: “We’re so delighted at the outcome. I have given Nakodar the freedom of our place.”
