BANGALORE, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- It is July 1st and India is all set to celebrate “Doctor’s day” today. The day marks the birth anniversary of Bidhan Chandra Roy, who is a legendary doctor in the country. The day becomes all the more engraved in the history of India because it was on this fateful day that Bidhan Chandra Roy breathed his last.

The doctors are among the most important persons in the society and this why it is fitting to keep aside a day in honor to celebrate their contribution in our lives. Hence on “Doctor’s Day” several hospitals and clinics around the country provide absolutely free medical facilities to the poor and needy. One such institute which will undertake this noble venture is the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI). Free treatments will be provided to patients from morning 9 to afternoon 2 at various hospitals in the city of Bangalore.

“Doctor’s Day” also marks the day of rewarding the highly efficient doctors in India today. For instance the M. S. Ramaiah Memorial Hospital will honor seven doctors who have been working in their medical college for fifteen years now. This day which was first celebrated in the USA has become a national celebration in India. Many organizations around the country also arrange for blood donation camps on this day.

However everyone is not in the mood to celebrate “Doctor’s Day” this year. The Indian Medical Association in Ludhiana has assigned the July 1 this year as a “Black day”. This is their way of protesting against the Clinical Establishment Bill that was recently passed by the Indian government.
