MINNEAPOLIS (GaeaTimes.com)- A total of 84 percent of nurses of MNA approved an open ended strike for 14 hospitals on Monday. Reportedly, this strike happens to be second in the month as the Minnesota nurses had earlier walked out of the hospitals on June 10. As a matter of fact, the MNA union requires 66 percent of votes for the approval of a strike by the nurses.
MNA also said that the nurses shall have to issue a 10 day prior notice to the hospitals before they can go ahead with their decision for the open-ended strike. On June 10, a total number of 12,000 nurses had called for an one day strike. They demanded an increment for the hospital staffs. Moreover, the nurses also said that any decision to cut a certain percentage out of their pensions should be revoked at once. As per the demands of the nurses, a City hospital spokeswoman told the media that MNA and it’s approval of the open ended strike shall only hamper the patient care. She said that any nurse working at the Twin Cities Hospital is capable of earning a total average amount of $79,000 in one single year. It was also said that the nurses can claim their benefits as they devote numerous hours in a total duration of seven days. She however criticized the decision of the nurses to go for a strike.
Linda Hamilton who happens to be the President of Minnesota Nurses Association declared in a written statement that MNA’s decision to approve the strike would never encourage any issues with the patient care. MNA only wants to deliver the right message for the demands of the nurses through this strike.

Some of the hospitals are hiring a company called HealthSource Global, a temporary strike staffing company based in California. For those considering working for HSG, I would strongly urge you to google “HealthSource Global wages” and you’ll find that the staffing agency that is hiring these replacement nurses is NOT PAYING THEM! What a mess… |
