LIBBY (GaeaTimes.com) — Inspite of the efforts made by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) officials, the death toll caused by asbestos continues to rise in Libby, Montana, LA Times reported.
Asbestos fibers coming out of a vermiculite mine is the sole reason behind the severe illness of the local residents. Asbestos causes a rare form of cancer called Mesothelioma. Many people have already died as they inhaled asbestos substances.
Meanwhile, EPA has stated that Libby is free from asbestos and it is cleaner than ever before. Ted Linnert, an EPA official said, “What we want to do on the ground will effectively break the exposure pathway. It can be the most toxic thing on Earth, but no one can be exposed to it.”
Mesothelioma literally has no cure. The symptoms of this rare and aggressive form of cancer start showing only after 40-50 years following ones exposure to asbestos. Once the disease is diagnosed, it gives victims only few months to survive.
While talking about the present condition of Libby, it is fighting hard to eradicate Mesothelioma. The number of mesothelioma victims is growing day by day and the residents are in distress. They are alleging against the clean up process initiated by EPA as they found it insufficient and late effort too.

This stuff is unbelievable. We’ve been fighting asbestos and meso for over 30 years, and we’re still finding cases. |
