Bigger hospitals may treat some conditions better
LOS ANGELES — A new study found that people with heart problems and pneumonia did better if they were admitted to a hospital that treated a lot of those conditions.
Larger hospitals on average tended to have lower rates of death from these common problems.
But the researchers say hospital size isn’t the only factor to consider when picking a hospital.
And they say that in an emergency, you should still head to the closest one.
The study of Medicare records appears in Thursday’s New England Journal of Medicine.
