KOLKATA - The condition CPM leader and former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu, who is battling pneumonia, continues to remain critical on Saturday.

According to a medical bulletin issued by AMRI Hospitals, he is now retaining fluid and his urine output has reduced. He is also feeling drowsy.

According to D N Agarwal, Executive Director, AMRI Hospitals, these symptoms indicate that now his multiple organs are affected. His heart beat also remains irregular. The next health bulletin will be issued at 8 pm.

State Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattachary is scheduled to visit Basu this evening.

Basu was kept under full ventilation as a precautionary measure last night, though he was put on partial ventilatory support in the daytime.

Basu’s health condition deteriorated on Wednesday morning, following which he was put on a ventilator.

Earlier in July 2009, Basu was admitted to the hospital when he complained of discomfort in the abdomen and a disturbed sleep. By Ajitha Menon (ANI)
