Lahore’s Ganga Ram Hospital doctors oppose new health bill

LAHORE - Doctors at the Ganga Ram Hospital here will Friday protest a proposed health care bill that, among other provisions, prescribes doctors to be booked for patient’s accidental death during treatment.
The decision was taken Thursday at a meeting of the joint action committee (JAC) of representatives of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), the Society of Family Physicians and the Private Hospitals’ Association.
Doctors unanimously agreed at the meeting that they would continue their opposition to the proposed health care bill all over the Punjab province. Doctors would observe a black day every Wednesday in all 30 districts of Punjab and in all teaching hospitals in the province, Online news agency reported.
The hospital was established by Sir Ganga Ram, a civil engineer, in 1921. After partition, another hospital with the same name was established in New Delhi.
On Wednesday, the PMA observed a black day and held protest meetings against the health care bill provisions.
