Lloyd Webber re-hospitalized after cancer surgery
LONDON — Andrew Lloyd Webber has been readmitted to hospital after developing an infection following surgery for prostate cancer.
A statement on the composer’s Web site Wednesday said he had come down with a postoperative chronic infection that needed immediate treatment.
The 61-year-old artist announced last month that he had been diagnosed with early stage prostate cancer, and underwent surgery.
The statement says the operation was successful and Lloyd Webber hoped to be back at work in the new year.
The Daily Mail newspaper reported he would likely be in hospital for two or three days.
Lloyd Webber’s new musical, “Love Never Dies,” is scheduled to open in London’s West End in March. It is a sequel to the phenomenally successful “Phantom of the Opera.”
