NEW DELHI - The number of new dengue cases has gone down in the capital, due to the advent of winters. There were only two cases of the vector-borne disease Saturday, a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) report said.
This has pushed the total number of dengue cases here to 6,217 so far, out of which there were 39 cases from outside the city.
According to the MCD report, Shahdara (North) zone is the most affected with 875 cases, followed by Rohini zone (791) and West zone (694). There have been eight dengue deaths in the city so far, the report said.
Experts say that the dengue cases dip when winter sets in as the virus needs moisture and heat to thrive.
Meanwhile, the number of chikungunya, another vector-borne disease, is on rise in the city. So far, there have been as many as 70 cases, while last year it was only 12.
