Super-speciality hospital to come up in Himachal

SHIMLA - Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Gulam Nabi Azad will lay the foundation stone of a super-speciality hospital in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh Wednesday, a state minister said here.

“The hospital will be constructed with an outlay of Rs.150 crore in the Rajendra Prasad Medical College campus in Tanda,” health minister Rajeev Bindal told reporters Tuesday.

To be set up under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Surksha Yojna, the hospital will have advanced facilities of neurosurgery and cardiology, among others, he added.

The central government will provide Rs.125 crore, and Himachal Pradesh the rest.

“The hospital would start operation by 2012, Bindal said.

Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla is the only other government hospital in the state with super-specialty facilities.
