Third world congress of pediatric surgery in India

NEW DELHI - India will organise the third world congress of pediatric surgery here this month to share new scientific ideas with the pediatric surgical fraternity from the world.

The event, to be held from Oct 21 to 24, will be attended by over 2,000 eminent pediatric and neonatal surgeons, urologists, laparoscopic surgeons and gynecologists from 108 associations around the world.

The event is conducted every three years by the World Federation of Associations of Pediatric Surgeons (WOFAPS).

WOFAPS is the world representative body of national pediatric surgical associations with a current membership of more than 100 countries.

\”The congress would have lectures, free papers and poster presentations. Symposia and meet the expert sessions would also be held on focused theme subjects,\” said D.K. Gupta, professor and head, department of pediatric surgery, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

The congress will also have a technical exhibition featuring variety of medico-surgical equipment, pharmaceutical products, scientific literature and instruments.

According to Prem Puri, director of children research centre in Dublin, pediatric surgery is the most delicate branch in surgery and is accepted as a challenge only by those who have passion to treat children with a gentle touch.
