GUWAHATI - At least ten people were down with dengue in Assam with health authorities fearing an outbreak of the mosquito-borne disease in the region, officials Wednesday said.
An Assam health department spokesperson said ten people were admitted in various hospitals in Guwahati - all of them confirmed with dengue cases.
“We have alerted all the government hospitals to check out for dengue cases and be vigilant. We have to take appropriate steps to ensure that all mosquito breeding grounds are destroyed so that we can avoid an outbreak of dengue,” the official said.
“Although most dengue infections are mild, some can progress to dengue hemorrhagic fever, a fatal complication of the disease,” a doctor at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital said.
