72 new dengue cases in Delhi, total 1788

NEW DELHI - The number of dengue cases in the capital continues to escalate with 72 more patients testing positive Sunday for the vector-borne disease, taking the total number of cases to 1,788.
With four deaths due to dengue so far and 70 cases on a daily basis in the capital, the Commonwealth Games host city is witnessing one of the worst outbreaks of the deadly disease in the last five years, according to official data.
According to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, 1,153 dengue cases and three deaths were reported in 2009, 1,312 cases and two deaths in 2008, 548 cases and one death in 2007, and 3,366 cases and 36 deaths in 2006.
South Delhi is worst-affected this season, recording 287 cases, followed by MCD’s central zone (240) and Civil Lines (235).
