NEW DELHI - Delhi reported 74 cases of dengue Wednesday taking the total number of people infected with the vector-borne disease to 1491.
Four people in the capital have succumbed to the disease this year, an official of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said.
The city has been witnessing over 70 new dengue cases daily in recent days.
With dengue cases rising in Delhi, there is a proposal to use the services of army to help fight mosquito breeding near the Commonwealth Games Village, where athletes and delegates will stay during the Oct 3-14 event.
Meanwhile, a suspected dengue death Tuesday in Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital resulted in an alleged manhandling of some women doctors and nurses by the angry relatives of the deceased.
The doctors had gone on a strike in protest and withdrew it Wednesday only after the authorities assured them of more safety measures.
