GUWAHATI - Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has been declared fit, nearly a month after he underwent three critical heart surgeries in Mumbai’s Asian Heart Institute. He is expected to be discharged Friday and arrive here Sep 8.

An Assam government spokesperson Thursday said Gogoi would stay in Mumbai until Sunday.

“From Mumbai, the chief minister would travel to New Delhi Monday and is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati Wednesday (Sep 8),” the official said.

“Doctors said he is fit and fine and can resume normal work upon reaching Guwahati,” he added.

Doctors at the Asian Heart Institute Aug 4 successfully carried out three complicated heart surgeries — a bypass surgery, a valve replacement surgery and an operation to enlarge two blocked arteries. The surgeries took seven hours.

Gogoi complained of breathing problem and rise in blood pressure July 24 while attending the meeting of National Development Council in New Delhi chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
