LUCKNOW - Four Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) recruits were hospitalised Saturday after they fell unconscious during a training session in Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad district. Later, two of them died in the hospital, officials said.

The four CRPF recruits fainted during a 16-km run, which was part of their training.

Some recruits alleged that the four were forced to participate in the training despite requesting permission to skip the training.

The deceased were identified as Surjeet Kumar, a native of Bihar, and Sunil, who hailed from Tamil Nadu.

Deputy Commandant Makhkhan Singh confirmed the two deaths, but denied that the four wanted to skip the training session.

“Yes, of the four recruits who were admitted to the Swaroop Rani Hospital, two died,” Singh told IANS on telephone from Allahabad, some 200 km from Lucknow.

“We are still to ascertain the cause of the deaths. The two had not asked officially for any leave,” he added.
