NEW YORK (Gaeatimes.com) — Obestetrics refers to the surgical speciality, that deals with the caring of pregnant Women and children, during their birth and postnatal period. In Layman’s language, you can call it Midwifery. Gynaecologists are the ones, who are the most modern obstetricians. A recent study published in the ‘Lancet’, revealed that large pregnancy weight gains may enhance the risk of child obesity.
The study made an analysis of more than 513,000 women and 1.1 million infants over a span of 15 year around Michigan and New Jersey. Researchers were allowed to consider different pregnancy weight gains. The Institute of Medicine says that, women having a weight gain between 25-35 pounds during the postnatal period can be considered healthy.
The overall study suggests that, women having more weight gain during pregnancy are likely to have children suffering from obesity. Unlike, other women, who have a normal weight gain during pregnancy, their off springs are less likely to suffer from obesity.
But, researchers also revealed that this study had many limitations. The study did not consider the weight of the mothers before their pregnancy period. The whole study was concentrated on Women’s weight gain during pregnancy. Due to a narrow spectrum study, this research has got its own drawbacks.
