SHIMLA - At least 150 people were affected after diarrhoea broke out in this Himachal Pradesh capital, officials said Thursday. One death has been reported so far.

“More than 100 people suffering from diarrhoea were reported in the OPD (out patient department) of the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMCH) Thursday. Out of these, 17 have been hospitalised,” Vinod Mehta, the surveillance officer of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, told IANS.

He said in the past two days, around 150 people suffering from the disease have been reported in the IGMCH.

“Most of the patients are coming from various localities in Sanjauli. A 12-year-old boy died due to disease yesterday (Wednesday),” Mehta added.

Vinod Patak, Director of Health Services, said: “Special teams have been rushed to areas affected by diarrhoea to check water samples and educate the people about adopting healthy practices.”

“More or less the situation is under control,” he added.
