AGRA - While yoga has legions of followers, Agra sees locals going in for water yoga.

In water yoga, the ‘asanas’, or yogic exercises, are performed in water, making them more challenging than when they are practiced on dry land.

At times, the exercises even become less arduous as the hydrostatic pressure makes it easier to perform the asanas by supporting the body in every direction.

Harish Chaturvedi, who is a lawyer by profession, is teaching locals the art of performing yoga in water free of cost.

The response to this unusual form of yoga has been positive.

“Harish Chaturvediji he is very good at performing yoga in water. He is teaching children free of cost. However, the administration has requested him, therefore he is coming here and taking the time out to teach the kids. It is a very good thing,” said Sudhir Narayan, a water yoga student.

Chaturvedi said that yoga has been a very old tradition in India’s culture, mentioned even in the ancient Indian epic ‘Mahabharata’. Body gets free of diseases by the practice of water yoga as water gives a lot of energy.

“Swimming everybody can learn but side by side if they learn yoga you can never be ditched, you will never feel tired. This is a fact by itself…no tiredness. The level of oxygen is very high in water…you will go near it…you will not have breathing problems,” said Chaturvedi.

Chaturvedi has been teaching yoga from past 12 years in Agra’s Eklavya Sports Stadium. (ANI)
