TURKU, Finland — The surgery on David Beckham’s torn Achilles’ tendon has been completed.

A person familiar with the operation tells The Associated Press on condition of anonymity that the operation was successful. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because an official statement had not yet been made.

The 34-year-old midfielder was injured in the closing minutes of AC Milan’s 1-0 win over Chievo Verona on Sunday and is expected to miss the World Cup.

TURKU, Finland (AP) — Finland’s STT news agency says a doctor has completed surgery on David Beckham’s Achilles’ tendon and that the operation went well.

Citing Finnish surgeon Sakari Orava, STT says the operation lasted 50 minutes. STT says Beckham will stay the night at the Mehilainen clinic in Turku, southwestern Finland.

The 34-year-old midfielder was injured in the closing minutes of AC Milan’s 1-0 win over Chievo Verona on Sunday.
