Perrigo gets approval for generic Loprox shampoo

ALLEGAN, Mich. — Perrigo Co. said Thursday it received marketing approval for a generic version of a medicated shampoo.

Perrigo gained Food and Drug Administration approval for its ciclopirox shampoo. The shampoo is a generic version of Loprox, which is used to treat seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp. Perrigo said annual sales of the brand name version total about $26 million.

Seborrheic dermatitis is a condition that causes the skin to become scaly or flaky. It most often affects the scalp but can occur anywhere on the body.
