“We have already administered an injection which will help us to preserve the body. We will keep it for the next three-four days and after that we’ll take the final decision,” SSKM Hospital’s anatomy department head Ashis Kumar Dutta told IANS.

Asked if Basu’s brain would be preserved for medical research, he said: “We are currently not in a state to share the details as it will take some time. Firstly, we’ll have to see the condition of the body after three-four days.”

“If it remains good, we will definitely give it a thought,” he added.

He said the body was received in a good condition.

According to hospital sources, the doctors have a plan to preserve the body in the respective departments for medical studies.

Basu’s mortal remains were handed over to the SSKM Hospital authorities Tuesday evening through city-based NGO Ganadarpan for medical research in keeping with his wish.
