Marathi theatre veteran Prabhakar Panshikar dead

PUNE - Veteran Marathi theatre actor Prabhakar Panshikar died of cardiac arrest and renal failure at a private hospital here late Thursday, family sources said. He was 79.
Some of Panshikar’s popular plays include “Bhatala Dili Osari”, “To Mi Navhech”, “Ithe Oshalala Mrutyu”, “Ashrunchi Jhali Phule”, “Thank You Mr Glad” and “Jevha Gavtala Bhale Phutatat”.
Born March 14, 1931, Panshikar, in a career spanning over 50 tireless years, acted in over 8,000 shows of plays in Marathi, Gujarati and Kannada languages.
Condolences poured in from several political leaders who lamented the loss.
Former Maharashtra chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh appreciated him for his role in plays like “Lakhoba Lokhande” and “To Mi Navhech”. “It is a great loss,” he said.
Panshikar is survived by his wife Vijaya, daughters Janhavi and Tarangini and son, vocalist Ragunandan.
