World Aids Day 2010 Observed Today

Today the whole world celebrates the World Aids Day 2010. This day is observed to raise awareness among the public about this dreaded disease. People are enlightened on the various aspect of this disease.
On this day there are no reason to remain in the dark. People should know how AIDS (Acquired Immuno Deficiency Disease Syndrome) is spread and how can people protect themselves against it. AIDS is spread by the HIV virus (Human Immunodeficiency Virus).
HIV is such a virus that when attacks a body, the body’s immune system is totally weakened. As a result the body becomes highly prone to life-threatening infections and cancers. Nearly 33.4 million people are infected with HIV and 2.1 million of them are children. There are no vaccines yet discovered to cure this disease. But medicines are there that can slow the progress of this infection. It is a dreaded disease and the world should unite together to fight against it.
