San Francisco judge says no to strike by nurses

SAN FRANCISCO — A San Francisco judge says nurses at the University of California’s five medical centers cannot go on strike while labor negotiations are under way.

Superior Court Judge Peter Busch extended a restraining order Friday that was issued last week barring the 11,000 nurses from a planned strike.

He said if the nurses were to go on strike as contract talks got under way, it would be an unfair “pressure tactic” to influence negotiations.

UC officials had urged the judge to prohibit the nurses from walking off the job.
