Premium Protein extends furloughs yet again

LINCOLN, Neb. — About 400 Premium Protein Products workers who have been off the job since June will remain on furlough for at least two more weeks.

A recorded phone message notified workers of the latest furlough extensions. Company officials did not immediately respond to a message The Associated Press left on Wednesday.

The company specializes in providing beef, pork and chicken with a verified source.

Premium Protein has its headquarters and a processing plant in Lincoln; its slaughterhouse is in Hastings. Those plants will remain closed at least until Nov. 17.

Private equity firm Matlin Patterson in New York is the majority owner of the company.
