LUDHIANA - Punjab officials seized 68,350 litres of sub-standard edible oil hoarded in a storehouse here Saturday.
“We had got a tip-off that some people are running a business of this adulterated edible oil from here. We laid a trap and recovered 60,000 litres of palm oil, 7,900 litres of mustard oil and 450 litres of soyabean oil from the godown,” Ludhiana district health officer U.S. Sooch told reporters.
“We have also confiscated huge quantities of fake labels and holograms resembling prominent brands of oil. A case has been registered and investigations have been initiated in this matter,” added Sooch.
A few days back, officials of the food and civil supply department seized over 100,000 quintals of sugar, worth over Rs.35 crore from three godowns in the city.
Ludhiana, the commercial hub of Punjab, is around 100 km from the state capital Chandigarh.
