RANCHI - Minister of State for Food Processing Subodh Kant Sahay, yoga guru Baba Ramdev and Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibte Razi Monday laid the foundation stone for a mega food park near here.

The project will be developed near Getalsood dam on the outskirts of Ranchi at a cost of Rs.1.2 billion (Rs.120 crore). Baba Ramev’s Patanjali Ayurved Ltd, which makes Ayurvedic products, will also have a unit at the food park.

The food park will be set up over 50 acres, with the state government providing 24 acres of land. The park is expected to generate 7,000 direct jobs and help create 30,000 indirect employment opportunities.

The park will have a central processing centre, supported by six primary processing centres in the districts, each of which will have between two to five collection centres and use 21 mobile collection vans.

The food park will process around 1,60,000 tonnes of fruits, vegetables and milk annually, and contribute to around Rs.6 billion (Rs.600 crore) per year.
