NEW DELHI - Patients at Delhi’s Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital were a harried lot Thursday as the doctors again went on a strike, terming the lack of security for them “totally unbearable and unacceptable”.

The doctors had also gone on a strike Saturday following a scuffle with the family of a heart patient who died at the hospital. The family members alleged that that their patient died because of a wrong injection given by a doctor.

Resident Doctors Association president Kundan Chaurasia said: “We had called off the strike on Saturday only because the medical superintendent Rajpal Singh had assured us that our demands would be met but till date not even a single demand has been met. We will not tolerate this any more.”

He said there should be no unauthorized entry in the hospital premises and only one attendant should accompany a patient. He also noted that there is a shortage of ward boys and wanted at least 40 nursing orderlies/ward boys to be appointed.

“The medical superintendent had said that he will take care of everything by Thursday but he has not done anything,” Chaurasia said.

According to sources, the doctors are also demanding the deployment of additional 110 security guards and 20 policemen as well as installation of 15 CCTV cameras in the hospital premises.

Despite repeated attempts, the medical superintendent was unavailable for comment.
