NEW YORK (Gaeatimes.com) — A recent finding associated obesity with low vitamin D levels in the body. Evidences showed that the sunshine vitamin that is very much essential for the good health of the cell, boosts calcium absorption and immune functions is found to be deficient in obese people. This new study can lead to the answers of why obesity raises the risk for a wide range of diseases.
The more you add pounds to your body, the more likely you are to Vitamin D deficiency that can trigger deterioration of bone health and can lead to certain types of cancer. When the body consumes Vitamin D, that we get either from sun or by consuming foods rich in oily fish and fortified milk it is converted into usable form called 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D. This conversion process, however, seems to be short-circuited among people with excessive extra pounds.
The researchers concluded after their experiment that obese people with higher weight and BMI can be linked to a poorer vitamin D profile. So, they suggested people who are overweight to take vitamin D supplement and expose themselves more to sunlight.
