LONDON - Busy parents are much more likely to wolf down unhealthy meals compared to childless couples.

University of Reading researchers found couples who only had to take care of themselves ate two kg more fruits and vegetables over a fortnight than the ones with families.

The study revealed that parents also bought less meat and stocked up on more milk and dairy produccts, cereals and potatoes, reports the Daily Mail.

Reading’s professor Richard Tiffin said: “The levels of fruit and vegetable consumption are reduced by the presence of children.”

The scientist said they had looked at a very wide sample and so did not look at individual cases. Tiffin added the research had implications for tackling obesity.
