Breast cancer is one of the fatal diseases that pose threats to the entire world. The number of patients diagnosed with breast cancer is increasing everyday. To make people aware of this lethal disease the Sounders FC has taken a good initiative. They will dedicate Saturday’s match vs. Toronto FC to raise funds for breast cancer research and support activities of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month kicks off at 12.30 p.m today. To mark this special occasion the match will be played with a commemorative Adidas ball. Not only that, players will be wearing jerseys that have pink ribbon patches and their Adidas sweat bands will also be pink. Pink towels will be provided by Gatorade to be used in the sideline.
James Riley, the Sounders FC defender has participated in a public service announcement that will air on KING TV and in-stadium.
“I’m proud that the Sounders are helping raise awareness and funds for further research to find a cure for breast cancer,” said Sounders FC defender James Riley. “My mom is a breast cancer survivor and she is an amazing blessing. Early detection was essential in her case.
The volunteers of Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) will welcome the fans at the gate and distribute 10,000 pink ribbons. Fans will be able to donate $10 to Kemon for the Cure throughout the match by typing “PINK” and send to “27722.”
Breast Cancer Awareness scarves and pins will be there to purchase from the Pro Shop or online. 10% of the sales of all pink merchandise will be donated to The Pink Daisy Project in October by the team.
Like Sounders, MLC (Major League Soccer) also comes forward to donate generously to the Breast Cancer Awareness fund. All 16 MLS clubs will conduct one night of local activation to raise awareness and funds for the cause throughout the month of October.
MLS will also conduct additional fund raising in their communities including in-stadium auctions and donating a portion of ticket sales proceeds, and/or hold recognition ceremonies for local survivors during the following home matches:
