World’s First Full Face Transplant Operated Successfully

BARCELONA, SPAIN (Gaeatimes.com) — The World’s first full face transplant was carried out successfully by Vall d’Hebron, a hospital in Barcelona, Spain. The patient was a young man who was given an entirely new face including nose, teeth, jaws, chin, cheeks and muscles. The operation continued for a duration of 24 hours by a 30 member medical team.
5 years ago, the patient had met with an accident, in which he lost his face. He has been unable to speak, swallow or breathe properly since that day. Tubes were used to keep him alive. Leading Doctor, Joan Pere Barret said that the face transplant is a milestone that has been achieved in Medical Science. 10 partial facial transplants had been done on that patient during the operation.
The details of the patient has not been revealed. Doctor Barret said that the patient was a Spaniard who was between 20-40 years old. Relatives of the patient have been thankful to the person who donated him the face.
