2 dozen Oregon prison inmates fall ill at facility

WILSONVILLE, Ore. — Oregon prison officials say about two dozen inmates have fallen ill from a gastrointestinal illness at a state prison, prompting officials to cancel inmate visiting at the facility’s minimum security section.

State Corrections Department officials said Monday that none of the inmates at the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville has needed outside medical care.

State epidemiologist Emilio DeBess says symptoms include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Authorities are trying to determine the cause of the illness.

Coffee Creek Correctional Facility houses a women’s multi-security prison and a men’s and women’s intake center.
