Neb. officials help investigate SD bovine TB scare
LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska agriculture officials don’t believe the case of bovine tuberculosis found in South Dakota this week is linked to the case found in northeast Nebraska last year.
Nebraska Agriculture Director Greg Ibach said Wednesday that state officials are cooperating with their counterparts in South Dakota.
Ibach says it appears to be a coincidence that a case of bovine tubeculosis was found in South Dakota just north of where Nebraska officials quarantined as many as 58 herds of cattle during their investigation.
Nebraska officials tested about 20,000 cattle after the first case was found and did not discover any additional positive cases.
Experts say there is little risk of the disease being transmitted to humans.
