Baby Without a Brain : A Miracle Story

Pueblo, Colorado - Nicholas Coke, a baby boy from Pueblo is a living miracle. He was born with no brain. He can’t see, hear, crawl or suck, but still managed to make a history. This week he has completed his one year’s tough fight for survival.
The disease Nicholas was born with is called Anencephaly. It’s a genetic disorder in which a person has no brain, just a brain stem. Anencephaly is a defect in the closure of the neural tube during development in the womb. The neural tube is a narrow channel that folds and closes between the third and fourth weeks of pregnancy, forming the brain and the spinal cord. In rare cases, one end of the neural tube does not close. This results in the absence of a major part of the brain, skull, and scalp.
Anencephaly occurs in about 1 out of 10,000 births, although the exact number is not known because many of these pregnancies result in a miscarriage, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
The cause of anencephaly is unknown, although the mother’s diet, including an insufficient intake of folic acid, may play a role. Most scientists, however, believe many other factors are also involved.
Nicholas, the miracle child has survived without doctors, or tubes. Her mother Sheena told that he even showed sign of emotion. It was his first smile that brings solace to her poor mother.
They are celebrating every moment as they didn’t know when that fateful moment would come and they had to witness their child breathing his last breath.

My husband and I adopted our son when he was 8 weeks : Dx brain stem baby. He turned 8 y/o Nov. 5 2010/ He eats regular foods, we just blend it .He also eats with a spoon and does not have a G tube.We call him our miracle baby.. |

my people shall perish for lack of knowledge. If you knew who God is ,you would’nt be saying that God made this child without a brain, than you should read about God. He is a God of love and life. Devil is about death, sin and distruction. He comes to kill, steal, and destory. Thank you Mom for choseing life. Love him like God love those that used the very mouth he blessed them with, to talk against him. Thats why he sent Jesus to die for us. God loves all of us no matter how bad we talk and act. Repent sinners and ask Jesus into your heart and he forgive all your sins. |

How is this a miracle? Seriously, the baby has caused nothing but misery to everyone around him. His parents are doomed to live the rest of their lives feeling quilty even though they shouldn’t. But they will, that’s what happens when a baby dies. The baby doesn’t have any feelings, he doesn’t love his parents back. Sad but true. Abortions rule so shut the fuck up you bible beaters. |

What a fucked up story and people here praising god for this body without a mind to be still alive! It has no brain, what do you think you are if not the function of your brain? And how is being born with such a defect not gods fault, if you believe in in him, in the first place? I really don’t understand. of course it’s sad but to keeps this body alive , makes no sense what so ever! What makes us human is not our body, but our mind and without a brain, there is no such thing! |

Haily, to say that god aided this baby is disgusting. For one, god gave this baby this disorder and, for another, by claiming that god saved this baby implies that he denied that help to every other baby that dies of this. It implies that only this baby was special to god. The brain stem is responsible for keeping the heart/lungs going. This baby will never gain consciousness but its stem is developed enough at the moment to keep motor controls going. Most babies born with this disorder do not have a stem that develops enough and many others don’t even get that far. This childs stem developed enough. Now explain your proof that god is ‘helping’. |

Oh boo you Michelle. Prove to me or anyone that God didn’t aid in this baby’s life or the discovery of the medical technology that kept him alive. If you want to look at it scientifically, there’s no proof either way. |

This reminds me of an article in Readers’ Digest 16-18 years ago. A mother told of her baby girl, similarly born anencephalic, and of how she was encouraged by a doctor’s advice to give the baby normal care and wait for developments. The baby gradually regained brain activity. It was Dr. Mary Ann Guggenheim,a Montana neurosurgeon, if I recall correctly. Was this article factual? |
