Bhopal junior doctors to continue strike

BHOPAL - Junior doctors in two city hospitals announced Tuesday that their strike, demanding protection inside the hospital, will continue indefinitely after talks with the health minister failed.

The junior doctors of Sultania and Hamidia Medical College hospitals have been on strike following abuse and threats to Sultania doctors Sunday by attendants after a newborn baby was declared dead.

The protestors are demanding police protection inside the hospital.

Madhya Pradesh Health Minister Mahendra Hardia Tuesday met a group of junior doctors twice on the issue, but could not pacify them.

“Our demand is clear, give us protection and then we will start working. This is the third incident in a fortnight,” said a junior doctor after the meeting.

However, Manoj Pathak, the health department’s public relations officer, said the government may accept some of the demands of the doctors and hoped the crisis will end soon.
