Kathua excise officials seize narcotics worth 15 million rupees

LAKHANPUR - Excise and Taxation Department officials in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua District, have seized over 140 kilograms of drugs and 20 quintals of opium straw powder, which is worth around 15 million rupees in the international market.
Acting on a tip off, the army personnel detained two trucks bearing fake numbers in the Lakhanpur area of Kathua district These vehicles were bound for other states when stopped at Lakhanpur.
Deputy Commissioner (Excise and Taxation) B A Saraf said, “Both the vehicles, these vehicles were on their way from Kashmir to other states. One was on its way from the valley to Yamuna Nagar and another was on its way to another state.” “Both the trucks have been seized along with goods. So we are just waiting for the next act. Cases will be booked under the NDPS act,” he added.ne of the trucks supposed to bear the registration number JK03A-8306 displayed a fake number JK13A-1934.
However, truck drivers and their attendants managed to give a slip to the officials and fled from the spot. (ANI)
