Physiotherapists’ group welcomes creation of jobs in Kashmir

NEW DELHI - The Indian Association of Physiotherapists Monday welcomed an announcement by the Jammu and Kashmir government for creation of over 100 posts for physiotherapists in the state.
“Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP) welcomes this initial step taken by the state government and would do its best to ensure that the implementation happens swiftly,” IAP president Dr. Ali Irani said.
The IAP, along with the Jammu and Kashmir State Physiotherapist Association, had sent letters to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, while protest demonstrations were also held in the state by physiotherapists and students in December last year urging the government to provide them job opportunities.
“Government’s announcement yesterday (Sunday) to create 103 posts in all district and sub-district hospitals of the state marks the first step which will be followed by plenty of others with IAPs ongoing efforts,” IAP’s Srinagar branch convener Wassim Malik said.
“There is still a lot more to be done since there are more than 3,000 unemployed students in the valley and IAP would continue to stand by the fellow physiotherapists and make sure their demands are fulfilled in the rightful democratic manner,” Irani added.
