Marathi writer Subhash Bhende is dead

MUMBAI - Well-known Marathi writer Subhash Bhende Monday died at his Bandra residence following cardiac arrest, his family said. He was 74.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said in a statement: “We have lost a legendary writer and a great thinker who represented the common man in his writings.”

Minister of Water Resources Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar said: “His death is an irreparable loss to Marathi literary field. His work encouraged many young and budding writers.”

Author of books such as “Jethe Jato Tethe”, “Uddhvasta” and “Kinara”, Bhende presided over the all-India Marathi Sahitya Sammelan held at Karad in 2003.
