NEW DELHI - A joint Indian-Australian delegation will visit Dehradun Thursday to explore possibilities of establishing a tertiary eye care and training centre in Uttarakhand.
The centre will cater to patients requiring advanced eye care in Uttarakhand and also its neighbouring districts through district vision centres.
“The burden of avoidable blindness and vision impairment on the health care system in India is significant. Enhancing access to these services will require an increase in the number of eye care professionals,” said Dr G.N Rao, Chairman and CEO, LV Prasad Eye Institute.
“We are exploring options and support for establishing a tertiary eye care centre of excellence in Uttarakhand. The centre will cater to patients requiring advanced eye care and will also train optometrists and ophthalmologists,” Rao added.
