‘Thermal imaging can help in diagnosing diabetes’

CHENNAI - Thermal imaging is a classical way of diagnosing and studying the implications of diabetes in respect of healing of wounds, blood flow to outer limbs and other vital organs, a top nuclear scientist said here Wednesday.
Inaugurating ‘ICONN-2010,’ an international conference on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Baldev Raj said: “Thermal imaging can do accurate screening in this respect and it has been proved after extensive research.”
The conference is organised by SRM University, in association with Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) and Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
Raj, who is IGCAR director, said the research has shown encouraging results and if it passes ethical and legal tests, the technology could be brought to the public domain.
“The IGCAR did a large number of studies in association with the SRM University and the MV Diabetes Foundation and the results are encouraging,” he added.
He said if a couple of universities join hands to pursue research in nanotechnology and are able to attract good number of researchers, IGCAR would act as a catalyst.
