Karachi, Feb 20 (IANS/WAM) A team of volunteers of the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) is undertaking a campaign to vaccinate over two million Pakistani children against measles and polio in coordination with Unicef.

The campaign has been funded by Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, chairperson of the General Women’s Union and of Family Development Foundation.

The initiative has come in line with the concerted humanitarian efforts being fostered by the UAE in solidarity with the victims of floods, and in translation of the directives of President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to support those affected by the floods in Pakistan.

On arrival, the medical team held a coordination meeting with Unicef officials and the representatives of the health ministry in Karachi to set the schedule for the campaign, which will step up efforts at 188 vaccination centres in 18 areas in Sindh region.

It will witness participation of 402 local support teams to spread awareness among the targetted teams about the importance of vaccination against measles and polio.
